Film / Video Production

This page isn't trying to sell Atmos Media's Film/Video production services but rather to showcase past and present projects. I have worked in TV production for many years, both here in Australia and overseas. I worked as a video editor and researcher for Swedish TV and digitally re mastered and catalogued one of the southern hemisphere's largest Natural History sound collections while working for the ABC. I also assisted with the audio post-production on a number of natural history documentaries, one of which I received an Emmy Nomination.

The Goldman is a proposal for a TV documentary series exploring the history of Australian gold, past and present as brought to life by one of Australia's more unique and articulate gold prospectors.

Are you interested in the history of gold or how and where to find it with the latest metal detectors? Phillip Daniel has 26 years experience detecting for gold, from the expansive goldfields of Western Australia and Queensland to the rich alluvial deposits of Victoria's Golden Triangle.

The Goldman knows about the geology and history of gold and how to use the latest technology to find it. Phillip is the 'Goldman' of Victoria's Golden Triangle. Join him as he shows you how to find gold using the new generation metal detectors.

The following four video clips introduce Phil Daniel in his natural habitat. We meet him in Blacksmith Gully, which in its heyday was one of Victoria's richest alluvial goldfields. He shows us how to work the mullock heaps left behind by the original gold miners of the 1850s and how they are still yielding gold...more>>

Phil & Nick

In 1984, while studying a Fine Arts Degree, a mate and I set up an independent production company and produced 'No Deposit No Return' Part 1. It was shot on Super 8 and chronicled the journey of two mates as they cleaned up the roadsides between Broken Hill and Bourke.

This was possible because of South Australia's Deposit Legislation which enabled us to collect over $1,000 in roadside rubbish in the form of beverage containers. We donated this money to the Broken Hill Scout Troupe for special needs kids so they could attend that year's Jamboree in Adelaide.

As we found out it was very hard to sell a Super 8 documentary to a TV station. So we decided to make No Deposit No Return Part 2, which was shot on 16mm and took us on the road from Alice Springs to Port Augusta doing much the same thing as we did in Part 1, picking up returnable and recyclable roadside rubbish.

No Deposit No Return is a thought provoking story of two Australian mates who devised a novel way of not only getting a job, but having a holiday and some great adventures at the same time. Phil Daniel and Nick Soames walked from Alice Springs to Port Augusta, a distance of 1,370km, to collect the recyclable and returnable rubbish thrown from car windows...more>>
